If you’ve decided to correct your vision with LASIK eye surgery, you might be interested in the recovery process after your procedure. Here’s a guide to your recovery period from The Pacific Vision Institute to help you on your way as you start a life with brand-new, clear vision.
What to Expect During Recovery
For a few hours after the surgery, your eyes may feel irritated, or you may feel like there is a foreign body in your eye. This will pass, and other side effects are also minimal. LASIK recovery time is minimal, allowing most patients to return to daily activities or work within a day or two.
While you’ll be able to see dramatically better and be back to your usual life and work fairly quickly, full recovery after LASIK surgery can time. Post-operative follow-up visits begin within one to two days after surgery and continue throughout the recovery period to ensure you’re healing well and your results are as expected.
Tips During Recovery
Use your prescribed eye drops
We will prescribe antibiotics and steroid drops to help prevent infections and inflammation. Use these as instructed for 7-10 days after your LASIK procedure. You will also have artificial tears, which you can use every couple of hours for about two months.
Rest and take it easy
Rest is one of the most important things you can do during your recovery. Take the time you need to rest and relax after LASIK eye surgery. Most patients sleep after the procedure in order to help heal and rest their eyes. While you can return to work or your usual activities within a day after LASIK, give yourself the time you need to recover during your recovery day and take another day if needed to relax and rest your eyes.
Protect your eyes
Until you’re well healed, your eyes need to be treated gently and protected.
- Wear sunglasses and protect your eyes from the sun or other bright lights. Bright light can stress your eyes or cause discomfort during the healing process.
- Avoid straining your eyes with screen time or reading after your LASIK surgery. Books, TV, computers, phones, or tablets can dry out the eyes and cause strain. Once you’re past the initial healing period, use lubricating eye drops during any screen time or reading until you are fully healed.
- Protect your eyes from water and steam from the shower by opting for a bath instead for a day or two. Wait for at least a week before you wear eye makeup again.
