Meet Dr. Friedman : Bio
Dr. Neil Friedman is the Director of the Cataract and Lens Surgery Division at Pacific Vision Institute. He is a recognized leader in the field of ophthalmic surgery having authored over 100 scientific papers, published 3 widely read ophthalmic textbooks, designed multiple surgical instruments, taught numerous surgical courses, and contributed to the important innovations in cataract and lens surgery with a dedication quite unique to the select group of surgeons worldwide.
Dr. Friedman graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. After finishing his ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary where he served as Chief Resident, Dr. Friedman completed a sub-specialty fellowship in corneal, refractive, cataract, and lens surgery at the Cullen Eye Institute of Baylor College of Medicine. After his fellowship, he pursued an academic career at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic where he was recruited for his expertise in cataract and refractive surgery. While at the Cleveland Clinic, he was selected to be the NFL ophthalmologist for the Cleveland Browns.
Having always loved the Bay Area, Dr. Friedman moved here over ten years ago. Since then he has held various faculty appointments at Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology. In addition to his busy surgical practice, Dr. Friedman serves on the advisory boards of major ophthalmic device and pharmaceutical companies. His expertise is highly sought after and he holds consulting and speaker alliance agreements with over a dozen of ophthalmic companies, including Alcon, Allergan, Aton, Bausch & Lomb, Inspire, and Oraya. He holds numerous patents in advanced methods of cataract surgery using ultra-fast laser technology. He is a consultant and is on the advisory board of OptiMedica - one of the three companies in the world developing femtosecond laser cataract and lens surgery.
Dr. Friedman served as a team ophthalmologist for the San Francisco 49ers. He is a member of the advisory board for the Sports Ophthalmic Society of the Americas. He is also a founding member of the American College of Ophthalmic Surgeons and a past President of the Peninsula Eye Society. He has been named as one of America's Top Ophthalmologists and has been chosen by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in the Bay Area.
For more than a decade, Dr. Friedman has been at the forefront of surgical skills transfer to ophthalmologists worldwide. As a result, he has been honored by the American Academy of Ophthalmology with an Achievement Award, and he has earned a Lifelong Education for the Ophthalmologists Award and Achievement Award. He is also a recipient of the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award.
Dr. Friedman is passionate about giving his patients the best possible vision with the most advanced cataract surgery, lens replacement surgery, and lens implant technology.
